Adv. Rotem Bavli Dvir: “Appointing a person who lacks the required experience and skills will deeply damage public confidence in the law enforcement system”

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel today, Monday 1 October, wrote to the minister of national security, the police commissioner of Police and the state prosecutor regarding the appointment of Chief Superintendent Aryeh Doron to the position of Israel Police spokesperson.

The Movement stated in its application that as of September 5, 2024, Chief Superintendent Doron has been acting police spokesperson despite the fact that, according to various reports, he has no real experience in the field, he does not have a degree, and he does not hold the senior rank held by his predecessors in this role.

According to the Movement, the reports paint a worrying picture, with Chief Superintendent Doron lacking the skills or seniority required for this sensitive and important position, especially at a time of war, numerous demonstrations, and the increase in the crime and murder rates in Israel.

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel requests to receive the grounds on which decision to appoint Doron to this position was taken, including addressing the claims regarding his suitability for the position, as well as the details of the minimum requirements for this important position.

Adv. Rotem Bavli Dvir, director of the litigation department at the Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “During this sensitive and complex period, the person who communicates the actions of the police to the public must be the most appropriate and deserving person for the position. Appointing a person who lacks the required experience and skills will deeply damage public confidence in the law enforcement system.’
