The Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “Justice Minister Yariv Levin is trying to evade compliance with the Supreme Court ruling by oversight inspection powers not granted to him by law. The Supreme Court’s ruling, sitting as the High Court of Justice, was unequivocal – the judicial appointments committee must convene and select a Supreme Court president. Discretion regarding the candidates and the selection rests exclusively with the committee, not with the minister of justice. We will continue to stand guard and use all means at our disposal to enforce the rule of law. We demand that the minister of justice immediately stop treating the Supreme Court ruling in a disrespectful manner and convene the judicial appointments committee immediately. If the minister continues to violate the Supreme Court ruling, we will act to obtain a declaration of contempt of court.”
