Adv. Dr. Eliad Sharaga: “During wartime, when our soldiers are fighting at the front, it is inconceivable that senior officials in the Prime Minister’s Office act improperly to obtain sensitive information, endangering national security “
The Movement for Quality Government in Israel addressed an urgent letter this morning to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to Attorney General Gali Baharav Miara, and to Civil Service Commissioner Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, demanding they consider the immediate suspension of PMO chief of staff Tzachi Braverman from his position, following the serious suspicions attributed to him regarding blackmailing a senior IDF officer.
According to reports, Braverman allegedly possessed personal and sensitive documentation of a senior IDF officer and used this information to gain access to highly sensitive security-related documents material. This incident is one of a series that are currently under investigation regarding the PMO, including the suspected amending of protocols of sensitive and classified discussions and suspicions regarding the international legal action against Israel in The Hague.
In its letter, the Movement emphasizes that if the suspicions are confirmed, these are serious disciplinary offenses according to the Civil Service (Discipline) Law, as well as suspected the criminal offense of extortion. Given the seriousness of the suspicions and the possible damage to national security, the Movement demands the immediate suspension of Braverman in accordance with Section 47(a) of the Civil Service Law.
Adv Dr. Eliad Shraga, chair of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “At this time, in the midst of a difficult and bloody war, there is a substantial public interest in the careful guarding of sensitive information. Obtaining information by blackmailing a senior officer in the IDF could pose a real danger to Israel’s security and the integrity of the decision-making processes in the conduct of the war. The prime minister must ensure that the those in his office and the people close to him are free of any suspicion, and act solely in the name of, and for, the public interest.”
