The Movement for Quality Government: “The government today approved the illegal dismissal of the attorney general as expected, despite Justice Sohlberg’s clear hint to return to the previous mechanism and despite admitting in its response that it changed the rules when it failed to fire her according to the legal route. The Movement for Quality Government in Israel petitioned the High Court in June against the change in the dismissal mechanism, and currently over 15,000 citizens have joined the petition as petitioners – an unprecedented number to joined the Movement’s petition. The petition exposes the clear flaws in the decision, including a clear conflict of interest of the prime minister, who is accused of crimes, and ‘drawing the target around the arrow.’ Politicians must not be allowed to turn the role of attorney general into a political role. The legal struggle will continue until this unlawful decision is overturned.”
