The Movement for Quality Government in Israel petitioned the Supreme Court today, Tuesday 17 September, against Minister of Labor Yoav Ben Tzur and the attorney general due to their decision to postpone implementing the end of the daycare subsidy for three months.

To recall, as part of a ruling that stated that yeshivot students must be drafted immediately, it was also determined that ministry of education funding for Torah institutions whose students fail to report for duty must be stopped. Following the ruling, the attorney general determined that daycare subsidy for parents where one of them is studying at a Torah institution is illegal by virtue of the Supreme Court ruling, and must be stopped.

However, despite the attorney general’s clear statement, she agreed to the request of Labor Minister Yoav Ben Tzur, and postponed the implementation of the decision for three months.
The Movement for Quality Government in Israel claims in the petition that the attorney general has no authority to limit or reduce the ruling, and demands its immediate implementation and the end of daycare subsidies.

Adv. Uri Hess, The Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “The Supreme Court’s determination is unambiguous. The attorney general’s decision to continue subsidizing daycare, even for one day, is in complete contradiction to the court’s clear ruling, and must cease immediately.
We hope that the court will order the unlawful funding stop, and clarify that the allocation of public funds must be in accordance with the law.”
