The Movement for Quality Government in Israel on the IDF Chief of Staff’s directive: “Issuing draft orders without sanctions is like writing a check without funds”

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel welcomes the IDF Chief of Staff’s directive to increase the number of draft orders for ultra-Orthodox recruits, but emphasizes that the army must not only issuing the orders but must also enforce strict sanctions on those who evade the draft. So far, about 20,000 orders have been issued, yielding only a few dozen recruits. This is not enough. Draft orders without effective enforcement are like a check without funds – an empty statement that only deepens the damage to equality and the strength of Israeli society.
