“The prime minister cannot appoint anyone to the position of head of the Shin Bet! The High Court of Justice has already ruled that Netanyahu has a conflict of interest and is prohibited from being involved in the appointment of the Shin Bet head.

On the same day that the announcement of the appointment of Maj. Gen. Zini was published, the attorney general ruled that this decision was “invalid and illegal.”

Yesterday we filed an urgent petition with the High Court of Justice to prevent the position of head of Shin Bet from being left without a permanent appointment. The country cannot have an interim appointment in the most sensitive security position, during a time of war and while the Shin Bet is investigating serious security investigations in the prime minister’s office.

Ronen Bar must remain in his position until a replacement is appointed through proper procedure and in accordance with the law.”
