The response of the petitioner, the Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “The decision of the attorney general not to represent the government’s position in the petitions calling to establish a state commission of inquiry is a dramatic and unprecedented step. It is clear evidence that the government’s refusal to establish a commission of inquiry is against the public interest and the principles of law and good governance . The attorney general’s clear position that a state commission of inquiry is the ‘only appropriate legal tool’ for investigating the events of October 7 and the war, strengthens our claims in the petition and emphasizes the urgency of establishing such a commission without delay.

The government’s conduct on this issue, ignoring the professional opinion of the attorney general, indicates that extraneous and improper considerations are at play. We call on the Supreme Court to intervene immediately and order the establishment of a state commission of inquiry. This is our moral duty towards the murdered, wounded and kidnapped, and this is the only way to ensure Israel’s national security and its international standing.”
