Movement for Quality Government in Israel: Unfortunately, in this affair there has been an intolerable delay in handling the serious suspicions. As early as December 2023, we warned about the serious affair of issuing diplomatic passports to political associates and to the prime minister’s son, and we submitted a petition to the High Court of Justice that led to the opening of the police investigation. However, a year and a half after the affair and our petition, the passports that were issued in violation of the law are still in the hands of those who are not entitled to them, under the pretext that they do not want to interfere with the investigation that has apparently not taken place.
The attorney general’s office and the attorney general herself must immediately approve the investigation of Minister Eli Cohen and order the confiscation of the diplomatic passports that were issued in violation of the law. A situation in which valuable and sensitive public assets such as diplomatic passports are in the hands of political cronies for over a year constitutes a serious violation of the rule of law, public trust, and national security. The Movement for Quality Government in Israel will continue to monitor the affair and act with all means at its disposal to ensure standards in public life, good governance, and the protection of public funds and assets.
