The Movement for Quality of Government in Israel filed an urgent petition with the High Court of Justice today, Thursday 25 September, demanding that it order the attorney general and the police to open a criminal investigation against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Maj. Gen. (res.) David Zini – his preferred candidate for head of Shin Bet – on suspicion of committing a series of serious offenses: obstruction of justice, leaking secret documents, fraud and breach of trust, and improper use of state resources for personal and political purposes.
Adv. Dr. Eliad Shraga, Chair of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “It is unacceptable to accept a reality in which a prime minister is trying to turn the General Security Service into a private political tool in his hands. Such serious suspicions against a sitting prime minister and a senior general require an immediate, transparent and independent investigation. The Shin Bet is designed to protect national security, not the personal security of a criminal defendant. We expect the court to state the obvious: the rule of law applies to everyone, including a prime minister.”
