The Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “It is worrying that the attorney general chooses to defend the dismissal of a minister whose whole ‘sin’ was an attempt to implement the ruling of the Supreme Court and her own directives regarding the drafting of yeshiva students”

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel: The support for the dismissal of the minister of defense raises serious questions, since the main consideration in his dismissal was his attempt to fulfill his legal duty – the implementation of the Supreme Court ruling and the attorney general’s own directives on drafting yeshiva students and the opposition to the passing of the draft-dodge and daycare subsidy laws.

Chair of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel, Adv. Dr. Eliad Shraga: “The attorney general is sending a disturbing message to elected officials. It is unconscionable that a high-ranking official finds himself deposed due to his loyalty to the rule of law and his attempt to implement the instructions of the attorney general, and she allows it. Instead of defending a minister who worked to uphold the law and the ruling, the attorney general chooses to defend a decision whose purpose is to promote the continuation of evasion of military service, contrary to the ruling of the Supreme Court. We call on the attorney general to reconsider her position and protect the rule of law, especially regarding a decision that endangers national security at a time of war.”
