The Movement for Quality Government in Israel welcomes the decision of the attorney general to cancel the unlawful promotion of the police officer Meir Suissa. This decision is an important victory for the rule of law and underscores the importance of the uncompromising fight against corruption and improper conduct in government institutions. We take very seriously Minister Ben Gvir’s attempt to promote an officer contrary to the law and the principles of good governance. This behavior damages public trust in the law enforcement system.
We will continue to stand guard and work tirelessly for standards in public life service and for strengthening democracy in Israel. We call on all law enforcement authorities to act even harder to ensure that such cases do not happen again, and to ensure full transparency in appointment and promotion processes in the police and all government institutions. This is the only way we can ensure public trust in government institutions and preserve the fundamental principles of Israeli democracy.
