Issuing 50,000 draft orders after a year and a half of war, and a year after the Supreme Court ruling, is nothing to boast about – especially when in reality only a few dozen Haredim were actually drafted. The public demands immediate and unequivocal enforcement: genuine conscription of all Haredi young men, and the application of the sanctions stipulated in the law on any one who refuses, just as is done to any young person who evades service illegally.
According to the Movement’s investigation, the state has not yet issued about 25,000 additional orders. Who exactly are they waiting for? By what legal authority are the orders being distributed in a trickle, and by what moral authority are soldiers being sent repeatedly to more and more rounds of combat service while others are evading their duty to defend the country?
