The Movement for Quality Government in Israel welcomes the decision of the judicial appointments committee Committee to fulfill its legal duty and appoint a permanent president to the Supreme Court. The victory of democracy and the rule of law over the unlawful attempts to harm the independence of the judiciary proves once again that the judicial system cannot be bent to the will of others.
Chair of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel, Adv. Dr. Eliad Sharga: “After a year and a half of procrastination and evasion, the Minister of Justice failed in all his attempts to harm the judicial system – failed on the reasonableness clause, failed on the unfit for office clause, failed on override clause, failed in the takeover of the judicial appointments committe, and now he also failed in preventing the appointment of the Supreme Court president. After five utter failures, it is time for the minister of justice to vacate his seat and go home. Those who disregard the rule of law and refuse to abide by Supreme Court rulings are not fit to serve as minister of justice.”
