The Movement for Quality Government in Israel: we welcome the decision of the State Attorney’s Office to open an investigation; it is an important reminder that no one is above the law”

The State Attorney’s Office announced today that “the Israel Police is investigating all criminal aspects of the incidents at the IDF bases in Sde Teiman and Beit Lid.” The announcement was made in an official letter on behalf of the deputy state attorney (special tasks), Adv. Alon Altman, in response to the Movement for Quality Government in Israel’s application on the matter.

The Movement appealed to the attorney general, Adv. Gali Baharav-Miara, to acting police commissioner Avshalom Peled, and to the head of the police investigation and intelligence division, deputy commissioner Yigal Ben Shalom, in early August, demanding an investigation into the incidents of violent break-ins into IDF bases. In its letter, the Movement stated that “many protesters broke into the IDF bases and the military court at the base by force and in violation of the law, confronting the guards at the entrance, attacking IDF soldiers and officers and making harsh statements against them, all with the support and full participation of several elected officials from the coalition”.

Adv. Stav Livne Lahav, the Movement for Quality Government in Israel: “We welcome the decision of the State Attorney’s Office to open a comprehensive investigation of these serious incidents. This is an important reminder that no one is above the law, not even elected officials. We will continue to monitor the progress of the investigation and demand that all those involved in the violent break-in to IDF bases be held accountable for their actions.”
