Tomorrow, Thursday 13 March at 1:00 PM, the Supreme Court, sitting as the High Court of Justice, will hold a hearing on the conditional order issued in the petition of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel on the method of selecting the civil service commissioner.
The Movement for Quality Government in Israel filed an amended petition with the High Court of Justice following the change in the government decision according to which the commissioner will be appointed through a special committee, demanding that the appointment of the civil service commissioner be made through a search committee for the role of civil service commissioner and in accordance with the procedure formulated by the legal advisory bodies.
The Movement claims that the government decision to appoint the commissioner through a special, ad hoc committee contradicts the government decision of 2018, according to which the government will discuss a permanent procedure for appointing the civil service commissioner that will be formulated by the legal advisory bodies, and that the decision was made without a proper factual and legal foundation. The Movement also claims that the decision was arbitrary and was made according to extraneous considerations related to the politicization of the public service.
In early February 2025, a hearing was held on the petition, after which the High Court of Justice issued a conditional order. The hearing will take place at 1:00 PM, before the honorable justices President Yitzhak Amit, Vice President Noam Sohlberg, and Daphne Barak-Erez.
