Therefore, the court ruled that the state must present a summary of the material from the investigation, and to comment on the possibility of suspending the licenses granted without authority, by 20 November 2024. In addition, the court ordered the state to examine some of the procedures currently in force for the granting of licenses for firearms, for example who is interviewed by licensing officials.
Adv. Rotem Bavli Dvir, head of litigation at the Movement for Quality Government in Israel: From the court’s decision it appears that, as we claim in the petition and according to the data presented by the state in the confidential hearing, there are indeed many gun licenses that were granted without authority. Given the serious concern that firearms have reached those not entitled to carry them because of this, we hope that the state will suspend the firearms licenses that were granted without authority, and those responsible will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law according to criminal procedure.”
