We welcome Superintendent Rinat Saban on her well-deserved promotion. After more than 25 years of outstanding service and a prolonged legal battle that we led, justice has finally been done. Rinat demonstrated exceptional courage and withstood significant pressure and attempts at retaliation intended to deter her.
This is an important moment not only for Rinat herself, but a victory for police independence and the rule of law. The message to police officers and investigators engaged in exposing governmental corruption is clear: continue your work without fear.
Minister Ben Gvir’s conduct throughout this process, choosing to personally attack an outstanding officer who dedicated her life to the Israel Police, clearly illustrates the danger of injecting political considerations into professional promotion processes within law enforcement agencies. Undermining the professional independence of the police may deter investigators in cases involving senior officials and erode public trust.
The Movement for Quality Government will continue to act to ensure the independence of law enforcement institutions and that appointments and promotions in the public service are determined solely on the basis of professionalism and integrity.
